Pedestrian Square between ex-Carpano and Lingotto
TurinThe area between the former Carpano and Lingotto factories, previously occupied by a parking lot, is transformed into a pedestrian public square. The aim is to make possible a multiple use of the square, creating a balance between “large” spaces (for passage, meeting, exchange) and “collected” spaces (for stopping, relaxing, reading).
A sequence of concrete strips and areas in self-locking cubes are arranged orthogonally to the facade of the Carpano factory and underline the compositional rhythm.
A large open void highlights the new entrance to the food and wine center housed in the former Carpano factory: this void is flanked by two separate areas, a sort of “islands” for resting, which are bordered by benches and shrub areas and host groups of trees. The flooring of these areas is in stabilized earth, to give a more natural character to the space and mark its difference from the rest; the benches are made up of colored concrete partitions and wooden seat surfaces.
