Masterplan of the industrial area ex-Corcos

Pinerolo

The Masterplan concerned the redevelopment of the ex-Corcos area, a company born in the 1950s from the need for expansion of two other companies: Corte & Cosso, founded in Turin in the 1920s and the German Carl Freudenberg, with whom he had started to collaborate in 1936. A new overall structure of the area is defined for the purpose of its urban redevelopment and economic enhancement. The overall design provides for the recovery of part of the Corcos plant for the inclusion of new service activities, the construction of new residential buildings and finally the creation of a system of pedestrian spaces, greenery and public parking.

The first objective of the hypothesis is to integrate the area with the city, both by inserting functions and features of urban rank in the former Corcos and by creating a new public pedestrian square protected from car traffic and facing the San Lazzaro complex, its garden and the neighbouring schools. The large surface area of the building, marked by the regular grid of pillars and well-lit from above, allows it to host different functions: activities related to training and services, commercial and tertiary activities, offices, residences…
