Masterplan Ex-Carpano Lingotto

Via Nizza, Turin

The urban project deals with the theme of the recovery and enhancement of an important and strategic area in the south-east quadrant of Turin and is part of the more general transformation that has radically invested this part of the city (multifunctional center of the Lingotto, interventions for the 2006 Winter Olympics, the Tower of the Piedmont Region, the Città della Salute and the new road accesses). In close collaboration with the municipal administration, an intervention was planned to give life to an urban redevelopment with buildings of great environmental quality integrated with the urban landscape. The transformations of the Lingotto, which on its northern side bordered the Carpano, had left as a ‘facade’ a blind dividing wall between Lingotto and Carpano, which overlooked a new street, as per the Master Plan.

The urban recovery of this articulated industrial complex that developed throughout the entire twentieth century, has allowed the building of the former Italian Pastificio to be used as hotel accommodation, the Carpano plant for commercial activities (food and wine theme park) and to create public and natural places that also allow to find a continuity between empty and full, stitching up the edges and returning the area to the city. The study was aimed at defining an area plan and an agreement with the municipality in order to allow the start of the redevelopment of existing buildings of industrial value and the setting up of new activities.
