projects at high altitudes | Borgata

Borgata, Sestriere

In Borgata Sestriere, a hamlet in Italy’s highest municipality on the slope overlooking Alta Val Chisone, the project involved building 38 residential units next to the historic centre of Borgata: the complex was structured in the form of an amphitheatre facing south around a green area, towards which some pedestrian paths from the old hamlet converge.

The staggering of the façades and roofs has avoided the monotony that a single long building would assume and favours recognisability of the individual units. A few elements, composed in different ways, recall the characteristics of the neighbouring huts: light grey plaster walls to base the buildings, wooden cladding to lighten the upper part, wooden access stairs, wide continuous balconies resting on wooden pillars towards the inside.
