Piazza Martiri della Libertà 2-4, OrbassanoACC Naturale Architettura and the PlaC studio have drawn up a masterplan for the regeneration of a strategic area close to the historic centre of Orbassano: the disused site of the Gruppo Torinese Trasporti transport depot. In order to breathe new life into an area that has been awaiting transfor-mation for decades, the project is conceived as an open urban scheme that connects parts of the city that are today “unconnected”, redeveloping the urban area, with particular attention to the front fac-ing Via Ascianghi, improving the road network and regularising Piazza Martiri della Libertà.
Inside the area, the small and particular building built in 1939 and originally used as the site of the railway station is preserved and enhanced. The southern part of the area is affected by the construc-tion of a new building for commercial, tertiary and residential use, a volume that recreates a new urban front, and with sensitivity to the urban context while maintaining a visual and structural for its more public functions it breaks down to adapt to the neighbouring urban structure which is still fragmented.
